Introduction to Resource Demand
Resource Demand is a measure of the resources an organization needs to meet current and future workloads.
Resources can be Skills, Users, Facilities or Materials in an Organization, Understanding Resource Demand is about knowing precisely what and how many resources are needed to meet project requirements. A Resource Manager holds the responsibility of knowing and allocating what skilled users have capacity to work on projects and forfill that demand.
Accessing the Resource Demand Page
To open the Resource Demand page, select Resource Demand from the Project Toolbar. (The location of this menu option will depend on your Cora PPM configuration.)
In order to modify the Resource Demand page, you must have Project Owner permission on the Project Access page for any particular project. Contact your site administrator if you are unsure on how to be assigned as a Project Owner.
If you cannot access the Resource Demand page for a project there could be several reasons:
- Your administrator has configured the option to only be available to certain users
- Your administrator has configured the option to only be available for certain project types
- You do not have access to the Project
Skills Tab
This is the main page for setting demand and allocating resources.
Note: The heading on this tab can be localised. The default is 'Skills' but in the screen shot above it has been localised to Skills.
Settings Tab
Before you can set the demand, you need to make sure the settings for your project are correct. This is done from the Settings Tab.
Planned Start and End Dates
Because you may need to assign Skills to a project before you have a detailed plan, you can set the start and end dates of your project's resourcing period independent of the start and end dates of the project in the project plan.
Capacity Management is done in whole months, so you just need to select the start month/ year and the end month/ year.
If you have no tasks in your Project plan, the dates will default to a six month range from the audit start date of your Project.
Resourcing Department
This is the department where resources for your project will be allocated from.
Click the icon to open the drop-down list displaying the departments.
Constrain the Project to Use Approved Allocated Resources
The options available here will depend on how your system administrator has configured Cora PPM.
If you can change the options here, you can choose from the drop-down list:
- Yes - you will only be able to assign users to tasks in the Project plan if they have been allocated and approved
- No - you can assign any user to a task in the Project plan regardless of whether they have been allocated to the Project
Hide Project from Insight Pages
If you do not want to include the resource demand and allocation for this project in the Insight Pages, select Yes.
You might want to do this is this project is still in the pipeline for example.
Show Project Managers
Click this button to display and update the Project Manager(s) for the project.
You can use the search filter to find the Project Manager you want to allocate or choose the name from the list.
Any user you add to the right-hand list will be assigned project owner rights to the project and will be able to modify the resource demand.
- Click SAVE to keep your selection.
