The SCM Scenario modelling section provides a workbench for Resource Managers to create scenarios. This is a structured way for organisations to plan for the future resource or skill demands to avoid bottlenecks and shortages.
By altering project timescales, project priorities and capacity of skill types, Resource Managers can assess the best options to deliver the portfolio based on real time information, without changing the actual resourcing on Projects.
You can use Scenario Planning to see:
- The effect of adding capacity
- The effect of changing Project start dates
- Project Timeline and Resource Capacity can be adjusted to determine if a schedule change or increase to resource capacity can solve a bottleneck.
You can access Scenario Planning by selecting the “Home” icon at the top left of the vertical bar and navigating to the “Management” drop-down list found on the right.
Note: The naming convention for your organisation may be different, as this name “Scenario Planning” can be localised.
The Scenario planning page is made up of three panels:
- List of Projects and their timelines
- Demand Chart which shows the current resource demand requirements
- Skills Grid which shows the allocation for the date range selected. The Gap column is colour coded to highlight where there are resource capacity issues
