Project Registers: Administration - Settings
The Settings tab defines who sees the register, what kind of register it is, and how it relates to other registers. The choices made here have permanent and far-reaching consequences, because several settings — most notably the Register Type — cannot be changed once the register is saved for the first time. Together, these settings shape the register's role in the project delivery ecosystem: whether it is a basic log, a hierarchical structure, a change-control mechanism, or a cost-tracking register.
Name
The display name of the register as it appears throughout the system (in the project toolbar, widgets, reports, etc.). It must be unique across all registers (including archived ones), can only contain alphanumeric characters and spaces, and cannot exceed 100 characters. On a new register, this is the primary prerequisite — the Save button stays disabled until a name is entered.
Type
The register type determines its core behavior and is permanently fixed once the register is first saved — it cannot be changed afterwards. There are four types:
Standard — The default, general-purpose register. A simple flat list of records with configurable fields, statuses, groups, and workflow.
Hierarchy — A tree-structured register where records can be nested in parent-child relationships (levels). This is the "Alternative Hierarchy" type internally. It enables the Gantt integration for registers, and if the CostBook feature is licensed, exposes additional Cost Control tab settings. An optional Sub Type dropdown appears for Hierarchy registers (only visible when the GovCon feature is on) — each sub-type (OBS, WBS, CLIN, Corrective Actions, etc.) can only be used once across all registers; already-used sub-types are greyed out.
Baseline Change Control (BCC) — A specialised register used to track schedule baseline changes. Only one BCC register is allowed across the entire system. When this type is selected, several Options-tab settings are automatically forced (e.g., Enforce Access Rights = On, Enable Linked Items = On, Quick Add = Off, In-Line Edit = Off, Distribution = Off, Enable in Mobile = Off, Include in Copy Project = No), and those options become non-editable.
Cost Control — A financial register linked to the Cost Control module. Only available when the CostBook feature is licensed. A maximum of 3 Cost Control registers can exist simultaneously (4 for some specific customer configurations). Selecting this type activates the Cost Control tab where the sub-type (Change Request, Budget Transfer, Trends, or PCN) is configured. Each sub-type is unique; once one is used by another register it becomes unavailable for selection.
Register Display (Visibility Formula)
Controls which users/projects can see this register in the project toolbar and navigation. Clicking the calculator icon opens a formula builder. The formula is evaluated at runtime against the current project's data. The display text shows:
"Visible" — formula evaluates to literal
true; all users with access see it on every project"Hidden" — formula evaluates to literal
false; the register is never shown in the project toolbar Important: but can still be accessed via widgets or direct link. Visibility needs to be set at the dashboard configuration to restrict access."Based on formula" — a dynamic expression is in place; the register shows only when the formula returns true for a given project
Report Display (Visibility Formula)
Identical in concept to Register Display, but independently controls whether this register appears in the Reports section. Configured separately using its own formula builder button.
Parent Register
Establishes a parent-child relationship between two registers. When a parent register is selected, the child register gains access to the parent's field values in calculated field formulas and workflow conditions enabling cross-register calculations. The parent register dropdown lists all other active registers (evaluated against the current user's session and project). Notes:
For a BCC register, the Parent Register field is automatically disabled.
Once a parent-child link is made, child-level items are displayed via the Linked Items feature; the parent register must also have "Enable Linked Items" checked in its own Options tab.
Archive
A checkbox that marks the register as archived. Archiving a register removes it from the project toolbar and active configuration lists. It is a soft delete as data is retained. A register must be archived before it can be deleted from the admin list. Once archived, it strips dashboard widget settings.
Note: registers that are used in a Payment Plan configuration, or that have a GovCon sub-type, cannot be archived (the checkbox is disabled for them).
