Project Registers: Administration - Groups
Register Groups are a layout and organizational mechanism within a Project Register configuration in Cora PPM. Every project register that an administrator creates is made up of one or more fields (the data points users fill in). Register Groups are essentially named containers that hold those fields and control how they are visually arranged inside the register's add/edit form.
Think of a group as a labelled section on a data-entry form. Instead of all fields appearing in one undifferentiated list, the administrator can divide them into logical sections—for example "Basic Information", "Financial Details", and "Approval Information"—so the register's input form is easier for end-users to navigate and understand.
What a group defines:
Name – the visible heading that appears on the data-entry form, separating this section from others (e.g., "Project Details"). Names must be unique within a register and can only contain letters, numbers, and spaces.
Columns – how many columns of fields the group displays side by side (1, 2, 3, or 4). This is the key layout setting: a one-column group stacks all its fields vertically, while a two-column or four-column group places fields beside each other to make better use of horizontal space.
How fields relate to groups:
Once a group exists, every field added to the register must be assigned to a group. Within a group, each field can additionally be placed in a specific Column (which column position it occupies, e.g. column 1 or column 2) and given a Span Columns value (how many of the group's columns it stretches across). This fine-grained control lets an administrator build structured, professional-looking forms.
The Default group:
Every register automatically has a "default group" created when the register is first set up. Fields assigned to a group that is subsequently deleted are automatically moved back to this default group rather than being lost. The default group itself cannot be deleted.
Ordering:
Groups can be reordered by dragging and dropping within the Groups tab. Their sequence determines the order sections appear on the form.
